Sermon Series: Covenant Keepers

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,

God’s own people.” (1 Peter 2:9)

Living as God’s Royal Priesthood: 6 Sundays Series

(October 18 - November 22, 2026)

What is a covenant?

A binding relationship of love and loyalty that God begins, keeps and invites us into. It is about living in a relationship that God has already offered.

The Covenant is the means of grace by which we accept the relationship and then seek to sustain it. It is therefore not so much about getting into a relationship with God as it is about staying in it. It is not about acquiring a relationship with God but living within the loving relationship that God has already offered us. [Methodist Covenant Service-UK and Ireland]

Purpose of the series

God is the first and faithful Covenant Keeper. This series helps the congregation understand what a covenant truly is: a binding relationship of love and loyalty that God begins, keeps and invites us into. Each Sunday builds on the idea that God is the initiator, and as faithful Christians we are invited to deepen our relationship with God, our daily life of faith, our commitment to the kingdom, and how we serve in the church.

Kids Trick-Or-Treating

Halloween at SJE!

Let's meet our neighbours!  Halloween tends to bring lots of people out of their homes and onto our streets. We will be hosting hot chocolate and handing out treats on our patio starting at 6pm on October 31st.  Contact the office (stjohn@sjechurch.ca) if you would like to join our group of volunteers!

Amazing Social Justice Weekend: November 6 and 7

SJE is proud to host Social Justice Breakthrough 2026 and we invite you to be there!

We have an amazing evening planned for Friday, November 6th, featuring Maggie Helwig and Maria Dunn.

Maggie Helwig is the award winning author of "Encampment: Resistance, Grace and an Unhoused Community". She has advocated for and walked alongside the unhoused in her downtown Toronto parish for years. Her keynote speech promises to be both instructional and inspirational. Maria Dunn is a Juno Award winning songwriter and musician whose music will be a treat for your ears.

On Saturday, November 7th, we have planned a day filled with breakout sessions led by session hosts who have expert knowledge and lived experience in various areas of social justice. You get to participate in important small group conversations about how we can make our community more just.

You can sign up for Friday or Saturday, but we hope to see you there for both!
