Maryann Amor
Curate

Hi everyone!
My name is Maryann and I have been at SJE since December 2019. I was ordained a deacon in 2019 and a priest in 2020. I am passionate about teaching and love supporting others so that they can develop as leaders who use all of the gifts God gave them as they carry out their ministry.
I love academics, especially biblical studies; my area of expertise is King David, narrative-sociological methods for biblical interpretation, and biblical women. I hold a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies (Hebrew Bible) from the Vancouver School of Theology and a Master of Theology and a Doctor of Philosophy (both in Hebrew and Old Testament Studies) from New College, University of Edinburgh. My thesis was published by Peter Lang in 2019 as Invoking YHWH in 1 Kings 1-2. I have also published the article, “The Handmaid’s Tale, the Bible, and the Canadian Residential School System: A Dystopian Warning” in "Who Knows What We’d Make Of It If We Ever Got Our Hands On It”: The Bible and Margaret Atwood (Gorgias Press, 2020).
